Strategy Guide: Mass Dragon / DragaLoon

This attack strategy involves more than just spamming your dragons in a single spot or making a circle around the base and hoping for the best. Please keep in mind this is a "guide" and is meant to give you a starting point for the use of these strategies.

  • ALWAYS locate the position of the Air Defenses within the base you are attacking.

  • Do not intentionally split your pack of Dragons into small groups.

  • The dragons, with their splash damage, can deal with the Clan Castle troops easily without having to lure them out and kill them ahead of time.

  • Before deploying your own Clan Castle troops be sure that the Air Defenses are targeting your Dragons and the enemy Clan Castle troops have already been lured and in most cases killed.

  • If there are buildings in the corners of the map make sure to bring troops to deal with them. This will save your Dragons from trying to slowly fly all over the map to earn you that 3rd star.

Before starting your attack you need to locate the Air Defenses. This will determine how and where you attack the enemy base. If they are clustered near the center of the base then you want to go with Rage+Healing spells. If the Air defenses are spread out then using Lightning spells is most likely your best bet. In either case, the goal of the attack is to have your Dragons/Clan Castle troops reach and destroy the Air Defenses as quickly as possible! This often involves funneling your dragons towards the nearest perimeter Air Defense.

Funneling involves deploying either 2 dragons (one on each side of the funnel) or your hero+1 dragon to the left and right of where you want your main attack to go. These troops will destroy buildings on either side of the main attack group first, forcing the rest towards their intended target. Proper funneling is essential to a successful dragon attack! Dragons seek the nearest building for their next target so allowing each of the funneling Dragons or Dragon/Hero to completely destroy 1-2 adjacent buildings on each side of your main target location will direct the majority of the firepower inwards toward the Air Defense.

BEWARE THE SWEEPERS! Air Sweepers can gradually push flying troops completely off target. If possible, try to look for a main attack point that is behind or away from the Air Sweeper's blow. If that is not possible, take the blowing direction into account when launching Dragons/Balloons and use it to your advantage!

Dragons will seek and follow Clan Castle troops, Heroes and Skeletons which can lead them completely off course. To prevent this, wait to deploy ground units (Archers/Wizards/Barbarians for corner buildings) until AFTER the Clan Castle troops have been killed!

Lightning Spells:

This is the best option when attacking a TH7 and most TH8s. If you bring Lightning spells, then you will use them against the Air Defense which is the farthest from the point you decided to deploy your Dragons. For DragaLoon attacks, determine which 2 Air Defenses are closest to the perimeter and of the two, which has a direct path for your Clan Castle Balloons (Balloons will path to the nearest defensive building). Lightning the third Air Defense (hardest to reach) and funnel your Dragons into one of the perimeter Air Defenses. Once the third and final Air Defense targets a Dragon, launch your Clan Castle Balloons as close to the Air Defense as possible (keeping in mind the Balloon's target pathing).

It takes a minimum of 3 Lightning spells to destroy one Air Defense. With the addition of Dark Spells 2 Lightning+1Earthquake spell will destroy an Air Defense allowing you to take an additional spell.

In certain instances, Hog Riders can replace Balloons as your Clan Castle troop choice. In both cases, it can be helpful to use a Hero to absorb damage from defensive buildings close to the final Air Defense immediately before deploying the Clan Castle troops.

Rage+Healing Spells:

If you choose to bring Rage+Healing spells, then you will deploy your Clan Castle troops (Balloons) from behind your army of Dragons. This will assure that the Balloons get to the center of the base where the Air Defenses are located. Try to select a starting point that avoids as many Gold/Elixir/DE Storages as you can. These buildings have high Hit Points and will slow down your attack.

Nothing will kill your pack of Balloons faster than a group of Clan Castle Wizards or a Clan Castle Dragon. When using this strategy, remember to allow your dragons to pull and target the enemy Clan Castle troops before launching your Loons. It is often helpful to use your first rage to dispatch the enemy Clan Castle quickly!
