Strategy Guide: LavaLoonion / GoLaLoon

The LavaLoonion/GoLaLoon attack strategies are mainly used by high level players, since it is available only from TH9+. The name of this attack strategy comes from the main troops, the Lava Hounds, Golems, Balloons, and Minions. Please keep in mind this is a "guide" and is meant to give you a starting point for the use of these strategies.

  • This attack strategy will ONLY work on some types of bases! Certain criteria must be met in order for this attack to successfully 3 star!

  • ALWAYS locate the position of the Air Defense buildings! The LavaLoonion counts on the Lava Hounds to tank for the Balloons and if the Air Defense is on the side of the base, the Lava Hound will only take a small portion of the damage.

  • If the Archer Queen is on the side of the base, deal with her using your Heroes! It is essential to take care of the Archer Queen if this is an easy option, because an enemy AQ can essentially ruin a LavaLoonion attack.

  • Do not take Balloons in the Clan Castle! They need to be spread out so it is better to have them as normal troops and have full control of how many are deployed and where.

For the LavaLoonion/GoLaLoon attack strategies to succeed you need to attack a base that has its Air Defenses spread apart and not clustered in the center of the base. Clustered Air Defenses will bring the Lava Hounds into the center of the base leaving the Balloons and Minions unprotected and perfect targets for Wizard Towers and Archer Towers.

BEWARE THE SWEEPERS! Air Sweepers can gradually push flying troops completely off target. If possible, try to look for a main attack point that is behind or away from the Air Sweeper’s blow. If that is not possible, take the blowing direction into account when launching Lava Hounds/Balloons/Minions and use it to your advantage!

LavaLoonion

If it is fairly easy, lure the Clan Castle troops to a corner using 3-4 Minions and then deploy a Balloon on top of the packed Clan Castle troops. Any troops that survive the Balloon should be dealt with using a few more Minions. In the case of a Dragon you will need to use a few minions and your Heroes to destroy the enemy Clan Castle troops.

NOTE: Do not use your Heroes to deal with the Clan Castle troops. They need to be kept and used in the event of needing to break into the center of the base to destroy the Town Hall, or if you will need a few more buildings destroyed to reach a 50% victory.

Start by deploying 2 Lava Hounds on one side of the base you decide to attack from and another 2 on the other side you are planning to come from. DO NOT deploy all 4 Lava Hounds against one Air Defense because that will prevent your Balloons from being able to circle the base, eliminating all the defenses and creating a 3 star opportunity.

After you have deployed all 4 Lava Hounds, it is time to deploy the Balloons. You should deploy half of them behind each of the 2 packs of Lava Hounds, but do not deploy them all in one spot. The Balloons need to be placed in a line on each side of the base you decided to attack from, to ensure equally distributed damage at each defensive structure on the base.

Next, deploy your Minions behind your Balloons to ensure a total clearing of that side of the base, not only of the defenses but also of the junk buildings. The Minions should be dropped a bit later than the Balloons so that they won't waste time attacking the defenses which will be dealt with by the Balloons, but will also not be destroyed by a defensive building.

At this point it is time to deploy the first spells, those being the Rage Spells. Deploy one Rage spell on each of the sides you decided to attack from, usually in the middle of that side. This is also the time when the Balloons will reach the first Air Defenses and kill them, making the Lava Hounds advance further into the base while still providing protection for the Balloons. When possible place your Rage spells so that they are just covering each Lava Hound position but towards the perimeter of the base to allow both the Balloons and Lava Hounds to take advantage of the spell. The spell placement should look like Mickey Mouse with two ears at each initial Air Defense and the nose in the center. A critical metric for this strategy's success is to have all of the Lava Hounds "pop" into Lava Pups!

TH9:

TH9s will place their last Rage Spell and their one Healing spell in the middle of the base where the Teslas, Xbows and Heroes usually are.

TH10:

TH10s will place both of their Freeze Spells in the center of the base, to cover the Inferno Towers and whatever they can affect around the Infernos (preferably the Queen, the Clan Castle or Teslas). Finally, they will place their last Rage Spell in the center of the base to help the Balloons have enough speed and damage to finish all the buildings before they get out of the Freeze effect.

GoLaLoon

The main difference in a GoLaLoon attack is the use of 1-2 Golems as part of a kill squad designed to take out the enemy Archer Queen and any Air Defenses nearby her. In addition, this part of the attack will most likely lure the enemy Clan Castle Troops, giving you a chance to destroy them as well. The Golems go down first followed by a few Wall Beakers to open the section (or Jump Spell to hop over the walls) and Wizards to create the funnel for your Heroes to reach the enemy Archer Queen. Once the kill squad has done its work you can start deploying your Lava Hounds near the remaining Air Defenses, followed by Balloons and Minions.
